Sometimes

  • Self Portrait

EEEK! I know, I know, looks like a police rendering of a serial killer. My wife calls it ‘the portrait of the artist is a big suck.’ Still here’s my first self portrait. I’ve been inspired (yet again!) by Cindy, this time by her self portaits. She’s particpating in Sparky’s “Self-Portrait Marathon“, and now so…

  • play

Another from the series of found drawings, scribblings on the backs of work documents I’m reading on the way home. This one I tried to follow Dalton’s advice and colour and play with it a bit after I found it. I ended up colouring a few of them with Leah, using her markers. I’ve let…

  • Summer 2005

Another forgotten sketch kicking around in my bag. This one’s from last August.

  • Remember winter?

I found this drawing with some others in my bag, drawn in December on the back of some documentation I was reading on the way home from work. We’ve had so much rain, and I’ve been anticipating spring so eagerly, I’d forgotten what winter is like – the cold, the boots, the gloves.

  • I can see the light

Found object, somewhere in the mess of our house. It’s a slide of my father in Europe, on vacation with either my mother or my uncle. Look and you’ll see an idyllic village, my father gazing on admiringly, self consciously. He had grown up poor in working class England, and so, I imagine, felt good…

  • Blind Contour First Friday #3

    Blind Contour First Friday #3

Niff and Sutter’s third ‘Blind Contour First Friday’. The theme is ‘breakfast time’. Here you find a bag of milk, an empty bowl and an egg carton. Really.

  • Nice hair

On the College streetcar on Monday night, coming home late (well, late for me). This woman, with beautiful hair, seemed to not be having a great time with her date. They were tense, bickering over small things, it seemed to me, but trying to be happy.

  • Patient

This person struck me as a very patient man. I also put about 30 pounds on him.

  • thinkin’

I got his concentration, but not the hand.

  • Trying not to smile

My parents, photo taken May 9 1975, probably before the big trip we took to England when I was 8 years old. Found in the basement, it fell out of a box while i was looking for some old comics.

Blind Contour First Friday 1 — Thank God I’m a country boy

Niff and Sutter’s first ‘Blind Contour First Friday’. It was moved from a weekly to a monthly format because it seemed too hard to keep up for many people. This month’s installment has a theme: HOT. Above, I give you our stove with one pot, one griddle, and one frypan on top. Not exactly a…
